RECAPING THE SUMMER… CONGRATS TO
TEAM IMPACT
2008 BAY PRO-AM Summer League Champs
2008 Tampa/Orlando Inter-League Champs
Okay lets start with Sunday, August 17 in Orlando for the Inter-League Championship. TEAM IMPACT representing Tampa and the Runnin' Rebels from Orlando.
Johnny Taylor, Magic Dorsey, Deshawn and Chucky the top 4 players of the 10 that showed up for the Rebels against Gus, D-Jones, Jesus, Balkman and Stretch. That's right just 5 players from Tampa.
Impact jumped on the Rebels from the start with a 29-22 lead after the first period. It was a show for standing room only crowd at the Smith Rec. Center in Orlando. The Rebels were led by the long range shooting from Deshawn Stevenson and smooth drives to the basket by Chucky Atkins. To offset their play, Impact featured Dominic Jones. Giving the two professional guys all they could handle. At the half Impact 55 and Rebels 50.
Coach Terrell mentioned that to start the second half, the team would look to go to Gus more and give Dominic some rest because they would need him down the stretch in the fourth. Two quick 3 pointers and 2 lay-ups from the Rebels and all had changed as if tropical storm Fay was coming and at the horn to end the third it was over Team Impact's head with the score 79-72.
Before that game happened, we had to have a BAY PRO-AM champ. It started with a play in game by Team Impact and Hard Work, who were tied with the same record due to a forfeit. The forfeit would have eliminated Impact, but to determine, who would advance to the playoffs, League Director Haywoode Workman decided to let the players decide. A modified game of 5 minutes would be played, just like in overtime. Impact pulled out a win by a frog's hair. With 2 second on the clock, Hard Work missed a 3 pointer to tie the game to finish 13-10.
Immediately after the horn, 10 minutes of warm-ups and the jump ball was in the air. The young guys verses the older guys. After the first 12 minutes 21-20, the "Bull-ievables". Bull-ievables were favorite becuase they had finished the season with a 9-3 record. Half-time 37-44, Bull-ievables are down. Impact was led by Dominic Jones with 18 and Bull-ievables by former Spartan Mark Borders with 12. Bull-ievables had the league's leading scorer averaging 26 per game, Kevin "KP" Perry a.k.a. Ten, who was having a bad night and finished the game with 10. Impact got the first victory of the '08 playoffs 80-70 led by Dominic Jones filling the cup with 31.
Impact's next game was against last year's runner-up, who had a by for the first round with team "Jus In Time", now team SKANSKA due to new sponsorship. SKANSKA seemed to be a little over matched. It was like they were 1 or 2 plays away. The game ended in a loss 61-70.
HOW THE WEST WAS WON...
They did it again. Seven team members from A+ Trailers went to Canada. The T(dot) O(dot) for the Caribbean Festival that takes the first weekend in August. The league need to do something about that. It was ugly 57-93 to the Bolts.
The Bolts would play the team that probably played the best ball throughout the league, Da Knights. The Bolts jump right on Da Knights with a 17-10 lead in the first quarter. This had Da Knights frustrated and intensity very high. It felt like a real NBA playoff game. They played so hard. Bolts ahead at the half 38-28. Half-time is to regroup and that is what they did with 18-19 quarter loss 47-56, but the momentum changed and the one play that got them going was a tip dunk by high flying Jeff James that brought the house down. He finished with 14. Da Knights out scored the Bolts 36-29 in the second half, but loss the game due to possession change with .3 to shoot. The out of bounds play was unsuccessful and the Bolts were going to the championship.
WHO WANTS IT...
TEAM IMPACT against the BOLTS. This wasn't much of a game. Impact seem to be toying with the Bolts. The Bolts cut the lead to 10 point twice in the game, but the final score 107-80 IMPACT. Tick 32 and playoff MVP Dominic Jones 39. He average 29.6 for the playoff.
Congratulations and enjoy your championship.
There has been a different champion every year since '04. We all have been told "never under estimate the heart of a champion" by two time champion and back to back '94 and '95, Houston Rockets head coach Rudy Tomjanovich.
Can't wait til next year.
Team by Team
SKANSKA - What's up with not playing in the playoffs.
BULL-IEVABLES - Two straight years with no cigar. Maybe a coach is the missing link because you have the players.
HARD WORK - Transitioning, but learn from this.
SLAM DUNK - Mr. Aden keep doing your thing.
ALL NET - DeCarlo can you get us some big men.
BOLTS - Get Tyrone healthy. Add one more big man and we'll see you in the semi-finals again.
A+ Trailers - We hope the league schedule changes. Toronto v. BPA playoffs?
SEBA - Antonio, JR tell Mike if he is going to leave the team to you, please recruit some big guys.
HANG TIME - Kevin Mason go to craiglist for some players and a coach.
FINGER ROLL - The name has been changed to "Dinner Roll". You guys didn't win one game. Fire the front office and all the players. Start new.
